On July 4, 2018 the four-day 20th meeting of the Green Climate Fund Board was held in Songdo, Korea and chaired by Lennart Båge (Sweden).

During the meeting documents regarding the submitted project proposals were considered, among them “Enhancing climate resilience of India’s coastal communities” (India) in the amount of US $ 43.4 million, “Empowering food insecure and vulnerable communities through climate services and diversification of climate sensitive livelihoods in the Kyrgyz Republic” (Kyrgyzstan) in the amount of $ 8.6 million, “Energy Efficiency Energy Efficient Consumption Loan Programme” (Mongolia) for $ 10 million, and the “Tonga Renewable Energy Project under the Pacific Islands Renewable Energy Investment Program” (Tonga) for $ 29.9 million and others.

Due to the fact that the Board was not able to reach a general consensus on the approval of the eleven project proposals and the accreditation of the same number of new partner organizations, a decision was made to postpone the consideration of funding proposals until the next 21st meeting of the GCF Board, which will take place from 17 October to 20 October, 2018 in Manama, the Kingdom of Bahrain.

At the end of the meeting it was announced that for personal reasons, Mr. Howard Bamsey, Executive Director of GCF, was stepping down immediately. The Board then commenced the process for the appointment of a new Executive Director. Mr. Javier Manzanares, the Deputy Executive Director of the GCF, will serve as the interim Executive Director until a new appointee is selected.

The GCF issued a press release on B.20.
